About Sasha Banks
Mercedes Kaestner-Varnado was born on January 26, 1992 in the United States. She is an American professional wrestler and actress who is currently signed to WWE.
Banks used to wrestle on her own. Banks wrestled for Chaotic Wrestling, where she won a Championship. She signed with WWE in 2012 and was assigned the NXT brand.
In 2015, she was promoted to the WWE’s main roster. In October of that year, her match against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Respect was the first time a women’s match had been in the main event of an NXT show. It also became the longest women’s match on record at 30 minutes long. That same night, she and Bayley defeated Charlotte and Becky Lynch to win their first NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship as well. This made them both very popular wrestlers for WWE and people voted their match as Match of Year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI).
The Raw Women’s Championship was held by banks five times. In 2016, she and Charlotte Flair were the first women to compete in a Hell in a Cell match, the first women to headline a WWE pay-per-view event, and the first women to win the PWI award for Feud of the Year.
In 2019, Sasha Banks won the Women’s Tag Championship. In 2020, she won the SmackDown Women’s Championship and became a Triple Crown Winner. She was also named Wrestler of the Year in 2020 by Sports Illustrated. In 2021, Banks and Bianca Belair became co-main eventers at WrestleMania 37, which made them the first African Americans to have that honor.
