About Emmy Rossum

Emmy Rossum was born in New York City on September 12, 1986. Her parents are Donna and Ron Rossum. She is the youngest of three children with an older sister named Samantha and an older brother named Justin.

Emmy started out as a stage actress at age 15 when she appeared in “The Scarlet Pimpernel” at Madison Square Garden’s Theater for Young Audiences series which was co-produced by Broadway star Jane Krakowski who also played one of the leads.

She made her film debut starring opposite Brendan Fraser and Elena Anaya in The Chaperone (2011). Emmy has since starred in films such as Beautiful Creatures (2013) or You’re Not You (2014), but it wasn’t until 2012 that she became known to mainstream audiences for her Emmy Award-nominated portrayal of Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime series “Shameless.”

Emmy has also starred on Broadway opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, as well as appeared with James Franco in the Broadway production of Of Mice and Men. She was nominated for a Tony award for this role.

In 2013 she starred in Olivier Assayas’ film Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) which competed at Cannes Film Festival 2014 where it won Best Screenplay. The movie is about an aging actress who confronts memories from younger roles while making a comeback on stage in a play that bears her name. This biographical drama also stars Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart.
